{"id":115,"date":"2009-03-14T22:28:00","date_gmt":"2009-03-14T22:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cooleysekula.net\/cooking\/?p=115"},"modified":"2020-12-23T22:31:09","modified_gmt":"2020-12-23T22:31:09","slug":"chili","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooleysekula.net\/cooking\/index.php\/2009\/03\/14\/chili\/","title":{"rendered":"Chili"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><br>6 oz hot turkey Italian sausage<br>2 C chopped onion<br>1 C chopped green pepper<br>8 garlic cloves, minced<br>1 jalapeno pepper<br>1 lb ground sirloin<br>2 tbsp chili powder<br>2 tbsp brown sugar<br>1 tbsp ground cumin<br>3 tbsp tomato paste<br>1 tsp dried oregano<br>1\/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper<br>1\/4 tsp salt<br>2 bay leaves<br>1 1\/4 cup Merlot or other fruity red wine<br>2 (28 oz) cans diced tomatoes, unstrained<br>2 (15 oz) cans kidney beans<br>1\/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Directions:<\/strong><br>1. Heat a large Dutch oven over medium heat. Remove casings from sausage. Add sausage, onion, and the next 4 ingredients (onion through jalapeno) to pan and cook 8 minutes or until sausage and beef are brown, stirring to crumble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Add chili powder and the next 7 ingredients (chili powder through bay leaves), and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Stir in wine, tomatoes, and kidney beans; bring to boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Uncover and cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Discard bay leaves.
