Grandma Hocher’s Apple Bars

Ingredients:
2 1/2 C. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 C. plus 2 tbsp. butter
1 egg yolk slightly beaten
milk
1 C. corn flakes, crushed
8 C. tart apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
2/3 C. flour
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg white, beaten
1 C. powder sugar, sifted
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 – 2 tbsp. water

Directions:
Mix flour and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly. Add enough milk to yolk to equal 2/3 cup. Mix until dough holds together; divide in 1/2. Roll 1/2 flat and line 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch pan. Sprinkle with corn flakes. Combine apples, sugar, spices; spread over crust. Roll out other 1/2 and place on top of apples; pinch edges to seal; brush with egg white. Bake at 350 for 50-60 minutes. Mix sugar, vanilla, and water; frost while crust is warm
